EWING – Citing her strong, progressive values, Minnesota Rep. Keith Ellison today endorsed Assemblywoman Bonnie Watson Coleman for Congress. Ellison is a national leader in the progressive community and Founder of the Congressional Consumer Justice Caucus, Co-Chair of the Congressional Progressive Caucus and Vice Chair of the LGBT Caucus in Congress. Watson Coleman is in a Democratic Primary contest to succeed retiring Rep. Rush Holt in New Jersey’s 12th Congressional District. Election day is June 3rd.
“Bonnie is working hard to join me in Congress, and I know that when she gets here she will bring her strong, progressive values with her,” said Ellison. “With the Tea Party threatening to cut programs like Social Security and Medicare, instead of expanding them, it's critical that Bonnie joins me to fight for our progressive values on Capitol Hill. Bonnie is the only candidate in this race that has been endorsed by national progressive organizations like the Progressive Change Campaign Committee (PCCC), Blue America and the Progressive Democrats of America. There is a clear choice in this election, and I wholeheartedly endorse Bonnie Watson Coleman for Congress to pick up where Rush Holt will leave off at the end of his term!”
Watson Coleman thanked Rep. Ellison for his support. “Congressman Ellison is a tremendous leader in the fight against the Tea Party’s assault on our Democratic values,” said Watson Coleman. “We have seen national progressive groups rise up and offer their support for our campaign and today’s endorsement serves as further validation that progressives around the country are keeping a close eye on this Democratic Primary and are actively supporting us to win the nomination on June 3rd. I believe there is nothing more important than standing and fighting for our shared values and I intend to keep pushing forward over these next weeks until we win the nomination.”
Watson Coleman’s campaign for Congress recently announced their campaign committee and has already received endorsements from the Women’s Campaign Fund, Bishop Reginald Jackson, the Mercer County Democratic Committee, the Union County Democratic Committee and elected officials from throughout the 12th Congressional District along with support from labor groups including the New Jersey Laborers Union, the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America, CWA 1039, the SEIU NJ State Council, AFSCME Local 979 out of Middlesex County and Corrections USA. The campaign has also been endorsed by national Progressive Democratic organizations the Progressive Change Campaign Committee, Blue America PAC and Progressive Democrats of America.
