Watson Coleman backs gender-equal pay

EWING — Assemblywoman Bonnie Watson Coleman (D-Mercer), a Democratic primary candidate in the 12th Congressional District, offered her support for the Paycheck Fairness Act in a statement on Tuesday.

Watson Coleman cited U.S. Census data that showed women on average make 77 cents for every dollar that men earn.

“Frankly, I am astounded that we are still having this debate in 2014,” Watson Coleman said.

“We are well past the time when income equity discrepancies between men and women in America should have been rectified, and the fact that Republicans in Congress feel emboldened enough to push back against common-sense legislation that would provide income equity and the ability for working families across the country to achieve a level playing field is simply appalling.”
